Track Name: Point of Reference
I'm just a tiny thing
Trying to find my way through the night
Navigating by way
Of the stars in my plane of sight
There's a nightlight twinkling
Down at the end of the hall
And my eyes cannot discern
What lies beyond it all

It seems the world is changing
Faster than I can manage
Gone are the things
I used to use to my advantage
My point of reference
Isn't far as it appears
I notice this too late
And then I disappear

This nightlight's got me flying around in circles
Track Name: Pendulums
I wake to the sound of freezing rain
And everything's alive
The way it's been for not a day

The cold doth pierce me less the day
And the songs begin to rush through me
As waters rush to the sea

For the world began today
And now she is relinquishing control

The pendulum's swing will take its course
As time comes racing by
The king is born a staff of gold

He forged the stars amid the cold
To glimmer in the dark
These days of ill, these days of woe

These days alone
Track Name: Overboard & Down
Ten months ago to the day
We raised our sails
Hold me brother
Lest my courage fails

The air I breath grows ever tighter
The sea is growing ever whiter
I will swim against my rising grave

I told my love back home
I'd not return
But this is not the death
I thought I'd earned
Track Name: Smiling at Strangers
Twenty years have passed now
Since we made that foolish bet
We argued so ambitiously
And he opened up and said:

'I bet two million dollars
And I stake my freedom hence!'
Fifteen years in exile
In a house within a fence

He read all of the classics
And he wrote a thousand songs
His wine and his tobacco
Couldn't hold him all that long

And through his two-foot window
I could hear him moan and weep
What things a man will give up
For his hubris and his greed

And sure enough he made it
But I bled my fortunes dry
My conscience was forsaken
I decided he must die

He looked a man of eighty
Though he wasn't half that age
I found an open letter
So I read it page by page

'I'm the wisest man on earth now
But I'd rather end up dead
So keep your silly riches'
That is what the letter said
Track Name: Shanghai
What do you see
When the lights begin to fade
When the curtains drop
And the world begins to turn the other way
Will you call in the middle of the night
So we can speak

You lit my fire
Struck a match against my chest
Then pinched the flame between your fingers
Dampened all the rest
Left a book of ruined matches in your wake
Never to burn again

And on a cold December evening
It finally hits me that you've passed
Two years to the day since you pulled your first
Tonight you finally get your last

And I know the things
That make your blood run cold
And I know when you are frightened
Though you act so brave a bold
When you go down underground
Into the dark
I'll be there
